Frequently Asked Questions

Do I really need to come (x) times a week?

New patients and exacerbations require more frequent visits.  The more treatments you have, the longer lasting the positive results will be.  Although you will likely have improvement with fewer visits, the effect will not be as great.  If you are sporadic with treatment, you will have some periods of improvement.

If I am feeling better, why should I continue treatment?

After the initial phase of treatment (for pain relief) it is important to complete the corrective phase to ensure that your improved condition is stabilized.  Completing the treatment plan outlined ensures long lasting benefits, thus preventing a return of symptoms.

During the initial exam the cause for your discomfort is determined.  Generally, pain is the symptom that develops after the underlying cause.  In the beginning of treatment you will often feel better but musculoskeletal dysfunction may persist.

I exercise at home, so do I need to do rehab here?

During the exam, areas of weak and/or spastic muscle groups are determined.  A rehab regimen is created for your specific condition.  Although exercise in general is therapeutic, it is important to do the exercises which are specific to your condition.  Our chiropractic assistants are well trained and experienced in teaching these exercises.  They observe and know what areas in which you may be weak and will then determine when to advance you to the next level.

Does an adjustment hurt?

The best results from an adjustment are obtained when the patient is relaxed.  Most adjustments do not hurt.  If you have never been adjusted, or have not been adjusted in a long time, you may be sore later that day or the next.

Is it normal to have a flare-up after I have begun to see improvements?

Yes, but there should also be steady improvement.  However, you can frequently expect to have a bad day or two, even after treatment has made obvious improvements.

How long will it be before I feel better?

This varies from patient to patient.  Factors such as how long ago the condition began, your age, occupation and if there has been injury to this area before can affect your healing and improvement time.
